Arrivederci (for a while)

Tomorrow I will board a plane for a two-week trip with my family to tour my ancestral homeland, Italia. I can’t wait!

I’ve already blogged about the pros and cons of this sort of thing in terms of consequences to your acting career, so I won’t go into all that again.

What I want to do is paint a brief picture:

Shortly after I get back I will participate in a reading of a screenplay that is being considered for option by HBO. Representatives of that network will be see me perform. That’s a good thing.

I am extremely interested in acting for an HBO project and have been since I arrived in the city almost five years ago. But this particular windfall is not the result of mail I have sent them, or a call my agents made to them, or an audition I have crashed, or somebody on the inside that I know personally, or just about any of the activities one normally associates with such an opportunity.

This is happening because I recently did a reading of a play for a group that produces new plays, and they liked my work, and now they’re doing this other project, and they want to work with me again, so I got the call. Nice.

I always like to remind my members that when they do good work, the industry will not ignore them. True, you might not get the response you’re hoping for, and you almost certainly won’t get anything back right away. But if you keep putting it out there, something good will find its way back to you.

May the Force be with you, true believer. I’ll look for you here when I get back.
