Knowing your type

Are you an actor? Can you pinpoint 2-3 well known actors that you are like? In looks and in the “quality” of the person? If you don’t know the actors out there that are “getting your roles,” then you don’t know your type, and you certainly don’t know how to market yourself. People, especially industry people, are lazy. They want to pinpoint exactly how to cast you from looking at your headshot for approximately 5 seconds. They want to say, “that’s a *insert well known actor’s name here* type.” If you’re an actor who says, I don’t know what my type is, then you are doing yourself a disservice. You are probably submitting for the wrong roles. You are probably wasting precious time and money submitting for the wrong roles. Figure out who you are. Because unless you’re Meryl Streep, you probably won’t “break out” and try different things. Help yourself by knowing yourself.
