If you follow American football you might be familiar with the tale of the Giants. They have a long history of heartbreaking losses punctuated by brief but glorious moments of triumph. This year they’re stumbling in the general direction of a playoff berth and might actually appear on a gridiron in January if they can manage to remain upright.
The team’s Achilles heal this year is the offense. It’s a mess. Nothing works right. The quarterback throws the ball to the wrong guy or to nobody at all. When he manages to throw it to the right guy that guy drops it. The running back scurries to the endzone only to fumble at the last possible second. It’s like watching a Marx Brothers routine.
What’s frustrating, at least if you’re a Giants fan, is that this team obviously has a lot of talent. Every now and then the individual players actually manage to all pull in the same direction at the same time and the results are truly impressive. But those occasions are too brief and too few and far between. Most of the time, well, most of the time they just plain stink.
By now it is apparent that what is needed is for the Giants organization to take a long hard sober look at itself. What will it take to turn this circus around? What assumptions have been made that now must be re-assessed? The team can’t just go on and on doing the same thing over and over and hoping for a different result. If you’ve been doing something for a while and you’re not happy with the results you have to change what you’re doing.
You have to!
