Lately I’ve noticed that a bunch of New York casting directors have been “moving” within the industry– changing jobs within an office or finding a new job at an entirely different office. This happens all the time and I think it represents a great opportunity for savvy actors.
Fact: today’s casting associates will be tomorrow’s casting directors.
I’ve had THREE “generals” for a particular show here in town over the past FOUR years. The feedback was always positive, but despite it and my constant updates via postcards I never so much as got to read for a specific role, let alone book a part.
Now, however, the office has hired a new associate. This associate previously worked on another show where she saw me several times for specific parts, one of which I booked. Guess what? Now I finally have an audition for a specific role on the other show. Progress!
Actors have to be keenly aware of how the business landscape changes from month to month (and sometimes even from day to day). Put yourself in a position to be on top of this very important, highly pertinent information!
