We’ve barely passed the mid-way point of the summer and yet already I’m starting to see auditions come up that are definitely part of the fall casting season! Regional theatre casting has started (just had a callback for one yesterday) and the student films are starting to appear on Actors Access. My agents tell me that some of the fall “episodic” shows (such as Law & Order: Criminal Intent) have begun casting.
The heavy time of year in Los Angeles is pilot season, which happens in the spring. Here in New York, though, one of the busiest casting periods of the year occurs in “the fall,” a time period that obviously has a very fluid meaning. As an actor, not only must you have a good working knowledge of at approximately what times of year certain sectors of the industry are active or inactive, you also have to stay on top of current goings-on so that when deviations to the “normal” schedule occur, such as right now this year, you can adjust effectively.
If you’re pretty much in the dark about what happens at various times of year and what you can do to take full advantage of different opportunities then call up your nearest TVI branch to find out more about one-on-one career counseling via membership. I assure you, your competition is already on the move!
